Liverpool v Manchester United: ‘This is a nailed on Liverpool victory’, says Stuart Pearce

Former England international says he can only see one winner in Sunday’s Anfield clash…

Stuart Pearce says Manchester United ‘have to raise their performances tenfold’ to have any chance of beating Liverpool this weekend.

The fierce rivals meet for the first time this season at Anfield on Sunday, with the Reds overwhelming favourites.

It’s unfamiliar territory for United and their supporters. Their dominance of the English game is well and truly over and they are looking up from sixth place to their Merseyside rivals, who currently top the Premier League table.

You can never count out the Red Devils, though, especially with Jose Mourinho in charge.

Pearce, however, believes there will only be one winner at Anfield.

Speaking on Friday’s Alan Brazil sports Breakfast, the former England international said: “I’m not sure we’ve gone into the Liverpool v Manchester United game with the same dynamic since back in the 80s.

“Liverpool are cast iron favourites for this one and United have been hit and miss this season.

“This one looks to me like it’s a nailed on Liverpool victory.

“Manchester United have got to raise their performances tenfold. If Liverpool come out firing and play their best, I think they’ll only be one winner.”
